Abstract

Euphorbia hirta L. is a medicinal plant recognised for its diverse properties, including the presence of flavonoid and tannin compounds that exhibit antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. This study aimed to investigate the impact of various preparations of lion's milk extract on total flavonoid and tannin content, as well as antioxidant activity. The samples were subjected to drying at sun-drying. Extraction was performed using a sample weight (g) to water (ml) ratio of 1:10. Two extraction methodologies were compared: 1) boiling extraction for durations and 2) microwave extraction. The findings indicate that samples subjected to microwave drying and extraction for 3 minutes yield elevated concentrations of flavonoids and total tannins.  The evaluation of antioxidant activity using DPPH and nitric oxide demonstrates better outcomes compared to other conditions.  Microwave extraction is an effective method for obtaining high concentrations of significant substances and enhancing biological activity.
