Solid waste characteristics and management in Phuthapbuek, Phetchabun Province

Abstract

This research aims to study preliminary solid waste management by collecting data from the 149
household representatives at Phuthapboek, Amphur Lomkao , Phetchabun Province. Including study the types and characteristics of the composition of solid waste. To find the way to manage solid waste that suitable for community. The research was conducted using questionnaires, interviews, group discussions, separate solid elements by quartering and weighing methods. The survey found that the composition of the waste during the period has a similar waste composition. There was the most of organic waste then the second most common waste of foam and plastic bags. The most of the hazardous waste is found to be ready-made diapers. Comparing amount of waste between Monday and Friday, weekends and public holidays, the public holidays were found to increase by 3-4 times. The characteristics of waste are found to have a high humidity value and relatively low thermal energy value. According to this study, the basic information for waste management planning by transfixing and utilizing waste will save on disposal costs or transport to the disposal. A campaign for people and tourists to contribute to the reduction in solid waste production each day will reduce the amount of solid waste that will occur within the community
