The Specificity on fatty acid of papaya latex lipase for application in the treatment of fat-containing wastewater
Abstract
This research aimed to study the specificity of papaya latex lipase for fatty acids in oil and its application in oily wastewater treatment. Sampling the papaya latex by using a sharp knife to cut the surface of the raw papaya, store it in a plastic bottle and keep it within the refrigerate. Enzyme were extracted by centrifuging papaya latex to separate the enzymes with insoluble particulate properties. Enzyme activity was determined by mixing the extracted enzyme with buffer solution, calcium chloride, and oil samples. Six oil samples were used in this study, including palm oil, camellia oil, soybean oil, lard, gutter oil, and coconut oil. The results showed that camellia oil had the highest enzyme activity, which was 5.73 units/g. A study on the effect of oil content (0.8-2.4 ml) in synthetic wastewater on the activity of papaya latex lipase showed that 2.0 ml of oil had the highest enzyme activity of 7.77 units/g.
