Abstract

This research aimed to study the levels of health knowledge about COVID-19, self-protection behaviors against COVID-19, and the relationship between health knowledge about COVID-19 and self-protection behaviors among the elderly population in Khungtaphao Sub-district, Mueang District, Uthai Thani Province. The research utilized a descriptive research approach and examined a sample group consisting of 356 elderly individuals aged 60 and above. Data was collected using questionnaires, and statistical analyses included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The research findings indicated that the majority of elderly participants were females (62.9%) and had an average age of 70.05 years, with most having completed primary education (84.3%) and being unemployed (41.9%). The most common marital status was married (63.2%), and a significant proportion had underlying health conditions, with hypertension being the most prevalent (70.5%). Additionally, the majority had an average monthly income ranging from 600 to 1600 Baht (45.8%). Elderly individuals exhibited high levels of self-protection behaviors against COVID-19 and moderate levels of health knowledge about COVID-19. Statistical analysis revealed significant correlations between health knowledge and self-protection behaviors. In conclusion, public health officials should implement learner-centered educational programs to enhance the health knowledge and promote appropriate self-protection behaviors among the elderly population. This approach aims to improve overall health and well-being in this demographic.
