PUBLICATION ETHICS

Ethical Standards and Practices of the Thai Environment Journal

The Thai Environment Journal places the utmost importance on ethical publishing practices to uphold the credibility, integrity, and academic rigor of all scholarly contributions. The journal encourages authors to adhere to the highest standards of research ethics, providing a reliable platform for disseminating scholarly research, theoretical articles, and innovative contributions that advance environmental studies both nationally and internationally.

All stakeholders involved in the publication process are required to comply with the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org). To ensure originality, the journal utilizes “Akharawisut,” a plagiarism detection tool, to verify the uniqueness of all submitted manuscripts. Any manuscript exhibiting a similarity index exceeding 30% will be returned to the author for revision and clarification. Failure to address these concerns may result in rejection of the manuscript, thereby terminating the review process.

Furthermore, to safeguard against bias and conflicts of interest, the journal strictly implements a double-blind peer review policy whereby the identities of both reviewers and authors remain confidential throughout the evaluation process.

Editorial Board Responsibilities

The Editorial Board—comprising the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors—consists of experts with academic independence whose specializations span the scope of the journal. The Editorial Board plays a crucial role in overseeing the article review process to ensure the highest ethical standards in scholarly publishing. Their practices include:

  • Transparency and Fairness: Ensure the review process is transparent, impartial, and unbiased by selecting qualified reviewers with expertise directly relevant to each manuscript.
  • Manuscript Quality Assessment: Carefully evaluate manuscripts for scholarly accuracy, significance, clarity of presentation, and alignment with the journal’s scope and policies.
  • Avoidance of Conflicts of Interest: Guarantee that editors have no conflicts of interest with authors or reviewers that might compromise decision-making.
  • Ethical Breach Management: In the case of suspected plagiarism or duplicate publication, editors are required to halt the review process and contact the corresponding author(s) for clarification. If violations are confirmed, the manuscript will be rejected.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the information of authors and reviewers throughout the review process. No disclosure shall be made to external parties.

Author Responsibilities

Authors bear primary responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their work. Ethical obligations include:

  • Originality and Exclusivity: Authors must certify that their submission is original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere during the review process.
  • Accuracy of Data: Report factual information from research findings truthfully without data manipulation or misrepresentation.
  • Plagiarism Prevention: Conduct plagiarism checks on their manuscripts to ensure no unauthorized use of others' work.
  • Proper Citation: Cite all sources and ideas—both from others and self—used within the manuscript, adhering to academic citation standards with a complete bibliography.
  • Meaningful Contribution: Each listed author must have made a substantial contribution to the study, including conceptualization, research execution, analysis, writing, and interpretation.
  • Authorship Confirmation: The corresponding author must ensure all listed authors have approved the final version before submission. Any change in authorship post-submission must receive consent from all parties and editorial approval.
  • Funding Disclosure: Authors must declare research funding sources and, where applicable, include documentation confirming permission to publish.
  • Ethical Compliance in Research: Affirm that the research complies with relevant ethical standards, including those for human and animal research. Authors must submit signed ethical clearance documents with their submission.
  • Copyright Agreement: Upon acceptance, authors must sign a copyright transfer agreement with the Thai Environment Journal.
  • Accountability: Authors are responsible for errors, ethical disputes, or plagiarism within their published work.

Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers play a vital role in evaluating manuscripts to ensure scholarly excellence. Their responsibilities include:

  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding manuscripts under review and refrain from sharing information with third parties.
  • Expert Review: Evaluate manuscripts only within their domain of expertise, ensuring critiques are grounded in sound academic principles rather than personal bias.
  • Timely Review: Complete reviews within the designated timeframe.
  • Conflict of Interest Disclosure: Inform the Editorial Board immediately of any potential conflicts of interest with the author(s) or circumstances that might compromise impartiality. Decline the review if necessary.
  • Identification of Redundancy: Notify editors if any part of the manuscript closely resembles previously published work.
